The Grizzly G1066R 24″ Drum Sander is a mid-sized drum sander, that comes with 60 and 100 grit sandpaper, and that handles stock up to 23 1/2″ wide and 4 1/2″ thick with no trouble. It features two aluminum sanding drums and, as Grizzly states, their drums are not rubber coated because “rubber-coated drums become ‘spongy’ and do not sand evenly or parallel to the ends’.
The singular review on Amazon bears this out. From April 2008, the reviewer said that he spent a day on set-up, but that he is precise about tools. He also advised you put the machine on casters, as it’s very heavy. He said the dust collection is not the best because, while it’s fine on airborne dust, the unit leaves a lot on the wood and in the machine that will end up on the floor. His main issue, however, was that there didn’t seem to be a way to determine set-up height without shutting off the machine, pushing the wood in and adjusting by feel. After six months of use, the reviewer reported no trouble, no grunt, plenty of power.
